This knowledge product has been developed by UNDP in order to help you reflect on the importance of dialogue as a tool for strengthening democratic governance and for preventing violent conflict. It is available in English, French and Spanish (approx duration: 6 hours).
The course is aimed at all UNDP Country Offices’ staff, its partners, beneficiaries and counterparts, as well as potential dialogue conveners, promoters and participants, social and political leaders, decision-makers, students, and any person interested in broadening their conceptual and methodological framework for strengthening governance, preventing crisis and empowering societal change.
You will develop a working definition of democratic dialogue, locate it within the tools for crisis prevention and understand its contribution to effective governance, democratic culture and societal change processes. You will also learn about the principles of dialogue, the basic conditions necessary for implementing an efficient dialogue process, the phases of a dialogue process, and the groups involved in its implementation. Finally, you will deal with the different types of political contexts for dialogue, and the main challenges and lessons learned in Latin America and the Caribbean related to dialogue practice.
In order to reach a broader audience, we offer this course in three ways:
At the LMS platform of UNDP's Learning Resources Centre.
In CD format for distribution through country offices.
At the Virtual School’s platform in self-study format with moderated discussion spaces. This is a great option for learning groups. Inscriptions are already open and the cost is US$25.00.
This course was originally produced through a collaborative effort of RBLAC and BCPR, led by the Democratic Dialogue Project of the Crisis Prevention and Recovery cluster for Latin America and the Caribbean. The online development was made by the BOM/OHR/Learning Resources Centre, Design Lab.
