Abstract:

The Democratic Youth Dialogue was promoted by UNDP –through the Democratic Dialogue Project and PRODDAL—with the support of CONJUVE. It took place in July, 2004. Twenty-five young Guatemalans coming from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, met together and participated in a workshop about citizenship and democracy. The workshop searched to create a pilot model for youth dialogues, and foster the young-people sector interest about the future of Guatemala and its democracy.

They had several dynamics in a 3-day workshop hold in Prodesa: talks, games, art, music, and creative tools. All the young shared their life experiences, their fears and hopes, and talked about the problems faced by the country. At the end, the young participants draw together a big mural where they expressed the desired future for Guatemala in 20 years.
